And of course, there IS always that traditional yard sale, which can be a great chance to recycle and bring joy to others from things you don't want anymore. Another plus, the sale day can be a fun way to connect with old friends and new people as you're saying good bye to a chapter of your life and beginning a new one. It's even more fun to have a helper or two, and their payment can be "a pick of the litter." (Note: I was very fortunate to have Maggie and her sister-in-law, Nadya, as my yard sale helpers when I moved five years ago. We made some money too!)Sue Knighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08007545063444866555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4219174492417302908.post-45348028892763808082010-03-06T09:22:32.330-05:002010-03-06T09:22:32.330-05:00Thanks for that insightful look at your life, Dana...Thanks for that insightful look at your life, Dana! Thanks for letting us know that someone else struggles and thrives with the same things. I am getting better at asking for and accepting help, but it is still hard. There have been several in my life. I currently have one which is both inspirational and loving. She leads with strength and hope.
I personally would not push too hard to find a mentor. She will appear when you least expect it. I am 54 years old and the mother of two grown daughters... age 28 and 31.

My 31 year old is a Dr. of Psychology and teaches at a University in California. She also teaches aerobics, as well as coordinating the Psych 1 Dept. for that university.

The 28 year old is bipolar with other tendencies which disables her to engage in a normal life regarding employment.

It is as if I was destined to have a life of irony and challenge. I embrace that challenge today and look forward to each new sunrise.

Back to the topic at hand. Who do I look to as a mentor in my life? Well, I look for another woman who I can communicate with on the same plane of thought processes. Sometimes they are hard to find. It is important to surround myself with as many differnt types of people as possible so that I may be able to find this person.

For now, I hope that this helps. I look forwardd to hearing more from you. It is refreshing to hear such honesty and perseverance.Silverlininghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00049270783092191965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4219174492417302908.post-23753583510815864872010-01-13T21:45:30.026-05:002010-01-13T21:45:30.026-05:00Thank you so much for your comment and kind words ...Thank you so much for your comment and kind words about the blog! In some ways, it gives you a heightened sense of self, which allows you to step back, assess a situation more critically, and problem solve more efficiently. As a result, meditation has quickly become a part of my lifestyle, and I highly recommend everyone try it as you feel the positive changes in a matter of weeks, not months.Victornoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4219174492417302908.post-38568564286293314792009-10-21T11:04:53.087-04:002009-10-21T11:04:53.087-04:00I used to work for a company that had not updated ...I used to work for a company that had not updated their HR manual since 1952, inmates have more flexibility than I used to have in my job. I saw first hand how the lack of flexibility created an archaic work environment, and as a result, most employees were not dedicated or motivated in their jobs since the lack of flexibility impacted their personal life, which in turn impacted performance at work.

SInce then, I've been fortunate enough to be able to start my own company, and I see directly how trusting your employees by giving them unlimited flexibility makes an impact on commitment, performance, achievement and overall wellbeing. We have gone so far as to eradicate our vacation policy, and now, just like at Netflix, we have a "take as much as you need" vacation policy vs. giving everyone the standard 2 weeks when they join, then 3 weeks after 5 years BS that most corporations use. What effect has that had? We are growing rapidly in a downturn, and our employee output is 3X more that most companies our size. I go for a run, take a shower, and generally get my head on straight for the day. Something about seeing the sun gradually illuminate the world makes me excited about what else might be revealed that day.

Also, although I naturally wake when I "ask" myself to the night before, my internal alarm is not 100% reliable and thinks a 30 minute window on either side of my request is adequate - but I detest being jangled awake by the sound of most alarms. My husband bought me an enzo clock, and it is so much nicer to be awakened by the gentle sound of gongs than the abrasive "WONK WONK!" of an alarm clock.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4219174492417302908.post-62859636114433623192009-09-10T23:59:42.586-04:002009-09-10T23:59:42.586-04:00My ideal day, assuming that you cannot request mor...My ideal day, assuming that you cannot request more than 24 hours would consist of the following:

1) Family Time -- Nice breakfast and supper as a family. Yes, I realize that isn't possible, so I would probably say it would include rising before the sun (and before anyone else in my house) so that I could be productive first thing.
